CRITICAL READING
AND WRITING
Introduction
to SAT and Verbal Pre-Test
Students will be introduced to the various sections
of the SAT exam along with tips and strategies to help during the test.
Time will be given to complete the SAT Pre-Test (40 minutes).
Students will check their answers in the
Student Manual and then compute their scores so they may compare them to
their Post-test scores at the end of the course. Unfamiliar and
multi-meaning words will be explained along with word lists to expand
the vocabulary.
Sentence
completion and reading comprehension
This session covers
sentence completion and reading comprehension strategies. Time is
allotted for classroom practice and exercises.
Vocabulary
review and reading practice
This session begins
with vocabulary quiz #1 followed by a review of critical reading
strategies. Classroom exercises for short
reading passages, long reading passages, and short paired passages.
Vocabulary
review and reading strategies
Vocabulary quiz #2 and further review of
critical reading strategies. Long paired-passage practice and a TIMED
reading practice.
Vocabulary and essay writing review
Vocabulary quizzes
#3 and #4. In-depth review of essay writing and rubric.
Essay writing
tips
Further coverage of
essay writing with review of rubric and tips. Review of sample essays
and grammar rules.
Writing
WRITING/MULTIPLE-CHOICE SECTION: Includes practice for sentence errors,
improving sentences and paragraphs. Followed by a TIME writing
practice. SAT Post-Test and answers.
